To the Zoo

This morning, after shaking off my late night concert exhaustion, I drove to the Springs to pick up Natalie and her kids for an excursion to the zoo. We stopped at Mercato on the way for some fine dining at McDonald's and KFC. Yum.

The Dubai zoo has a diverse array of animals. Sadly, they are in inadequate spaces and environments. The word around town is that a new zoo is being built in Dubailand, so hopefully the not too distant future holds better accommodations for the amazing creatures that live there. The kids were thrilled to see lions, a tiger, giraffes, chimps, gorillas, flamingos and saw toothed vipers within walking distance from their school. The quote of the day had to be when Ty and Natalie's daughter spotted some baboons with swollen bottoms. They declared that the baboons' brains were coming out of their butts. To which, Alex replied, "Those are reproductive organs. I think they use them to mate." Clearly, we need to have a conversation, and soon. Lol.

After the zoo, we stopped for cupcakes at Kitsch, then dropped Natalie and her kids at their home. Bowling was next on the agenda, so we drove a few exits down Sheikh Zayed Road to meet another friend and her children. After an hour of bumper bowling, we snagged dinner at the Mug & Bean where the kids chowed on perfect Belgian waffles with ice cream. It was a full day, and I managed to totally wear out Alex and Ty. Mission accomplished.
