Kicks on Route 66 (Part One)

Route 66 here is the Dubai - Al Ain Road, and on December 19th we embarked on the hour and a half long journey. Al Ain is part of the Abu Dhabi emirate, and I have been wanting to visit the city since reading about it way back in August. Al Ain is home to Jebel Hafeet, one of the larger mountains in the UAE. The road that winds up Jebel Hafeet has been named by Edmunds.com as the best driving road in the world. Al Ain is also home to parks, a zoo, a fort and other attractions that I knew would make it a hit with the Ogurs. So off we went...

On the way out of Dubai, we passed through parts of what is becoming "Dubailand", the theme park extravaganza here. We saw the Dubai Outlet Mall (which is open), gates to Universal Studios (which is not), the Rugby Sevens stadium, and lots of construction.

On the drive, two things stood out to me and Scott: how straight the road is and how long the power lines are. The Al Ain Road makes Route 80 to Bucknell look windy, and when you come across power lines, your eyes can follow them into the horizon until they disappear.

The Al Ain road also passes through farm country. No, really, it does. Dairy farms, chicken farms, egg farms, and vegetable farms....

And of course, we saw camels.
