What's that crawling in the....

Having lived in NYC for seven years, I am used to things crawling in my living space. Heck, I even had a cockroach crawl through my hair and wake me up from a pleasant sleep, once. I've seen squirrels in attics, bats in kitchens, ants on floors... well, you get the idea. Tonight we had a new one! There was a gecko in our tub. The kids wanted to keep it, but Scott gently caught it in a plastic takeout container and released it. The gecko was kind of cute.

Before gecko trapping practice, we enjoyed a beautiful day in Dubai, even if we spent a lot of it inside. The weather here has settled into the 80's during the day which is nice. This morning, Ty and I ventured out to the Booster Club Jumble Sale at school. He picked out a puzzle and three books for a whopping 10 dirhams (about $2.75). We ran into my friend Natalie and several moms of children from Tyler's class while we were there, too. It is nice to see some familiar friendly faces when we are out and about. Ty and I returned home, and Scott and I burst into nesting mode. I worked on unpacking the office (the last room to be done), while he did manly things like hang smoke and CO2 detectors. He was happy to use my drill ;-).
When we ran out of steam doing things around the house, we took the boys to Jumeirah Beach Park, a great park only about 5 minutes from our house with beach access, walking paths and a fun playground. When it comes down to it, all the kids ever want to do is roll in the sand. After sunset, we strolled across the street to Chili's for an unremarkable dinner. Later, Tyler turned photographer. To get to our car, we had to walk by the Dubai Ladies Club where they have some painted falcons on display (we've now seen cows in NYC and Chicago, cars and zoo animals in Stamford, and falcons, camels and horses in Dubai). He concentrated very hard while he framed his shot and was happy with the result.

Dear Cathy~

I swear I wasn't copying you when I posted a gecko on my blog yesterday. I swear! Anyone who knows our family can attest to our being obsessed with our skittery little visitors. You got a very cute one. Well done with all your great photos! I love that you have such a happy family. Me, I dunno if I could survive being the only feminine presence in a family of four...kudos to you.
